Hare Today, Gone in 59 minutes

This is just to say that the current auction is about to end.

I want to see consumer frenzy, here, people. I want to see grown men knocking down old ladies in a desperate scramble for the last Cabbage Patch Kid.

Matthew Draws Redux: Robbi Draws

I would like you all to pay close attention here. This is what a good, loving wife will do for her husband in a moment of selfless compassion. Yesterday I was chuckling wildly over Matthew Draws VIII when I realized that what he is doing is, in fact, not an easy job. For one, he does it in pen, in one shot. No erasing, no redraws, no changing his mind about filling in those pupils. And for two, he’s putting this rough first take out there on the interwebs, for everyone to see (and, doubtless, laugh at). You’d be hard-pressed to find a professional illustrator who would go out and do that.

And so, here I am. I realize, of course, that this will likely significantly lower the stock value of Robbi Behr Illustration, but I feel it only right to fall on the sword in the name of, well, I’m not really sure. Just to fall on the sword, I suppose. You ought to do it every now and then, just to keep yourself real.

You may feel free to cross-reference with Matthew’s drawings, though I’m not sure it will help (especially in the cases of items 3 and 4) (in my defense, Matthew picked horrible reference photos for those two). Give it your best shot.

Big in Argentina

Not long ago, I got an email from Argentinian blogger Pablo Garcia, asking if we’d be willing to answer a few questions for “Join the Talk,” a blog that discusses comics, narrative, digital media, and the constantly shifting paradigm for each.

Here’s the interview.

Note that the preamble is in Spanish, but his questions and our responses should make sense to you English speakers. Apparently, he’s going to translate our responses into Spanish to post on another blog next week.

Taking the world by storm, we are.

Time to Pack

We leave for AWP in three days. At long last, we have assembled the inventory, which mostly consists of books.

And more books.

But also some T-shirts shirts.

And some irreverent baby garb.

A few books still lack covers, and we still have some signage to make, but we’re getting close.

Back to it.

Catalog

As part of our preparations for the AWP conference next week in Washington, D.C., we’ve been making the first-ever Idiots’Books catalog, an 8-page summation of our various products and services with a little bit of sass thrown in for good measure. We’re still making tweaks and adjustments, but I thought you might like to see the cover.

We’ll post a PDF for download when we’re done with the rest.

Snow

Instead of making me lunch, Robbi is out roaming the countryside. To flaunt her freedom, she sent me this photo:

House Husband

Robbi is working this morning, which means that the various domestic duties have fallen to me. In addition to doing the dishes and tending to the children, I am expected to prepare lavish meals.

And to serve them in a manner befitting a person of Robbi’s elegance, grace, and professional standing.

At 1:00 sharp, the paradigm shifts. I will become the hard working breadwinner, and Robbi will assume the mantle of domesticity. And will she spend the afternoon making me an appealing, complex meal? The answer is no. Instead, she is taking the children to visit with some friends. I cry foul. I can’t remember the last time Robbi brought me an overstuffed burrito while wearing a prom dress.

There is no parity in the workplace. We house husbands simply don’t get the respect that we deserve.

Cozy

On the couch, late last night, just before bed.

This is why I like lamps.

Infinity Elephants

I suppose I don’t need to justify myself for posting a link that interests me, but there are two points that make the following video relevant to this blog.

1) Fascinating mathematical concepts are revealed through illustrations. This blog is about illustration. The link seems sound.

2) The fascinating mathematical concepts in question have to do with infinity, a notion certain to send Robbi into a dizzying tailspin of perplexity. Robbi is an illustrator. Again, I feel justified by context.

Without further ado, then, enjoy some mathematics with your Wednesday.
