Dr. Brian A. Wecht, B.A., Ph.D. - saxophone, keyboards, clarinet, physics
A genial fellow who owns a signed copy of Mojo Nixon's debut album Free, Drunk, and Horny, New Jersey native Brian Wecht once made a number two in Stephen Hawking's private bathroom. Disappointed with his poor performance after graduating summa cum laude from Williams College, Wecht went on to earn his doctorate in physics from UC San Diego, and followed that up with a postdoc position at MIT. A firm believer that one postdoc is not enough, he recently signed on for a second at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. Wecht has lectured on supersymmetry and string theory in Korea, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, and Mexico and has published sixteen papers in physics in the time it takes you to make a pot of coffee.
When not engaged in important research, Wecht acts like a complete idiot. Keyboardist, saxophonist, hype man, and rapper with the band Agave in San Diego, he also enjoyed a stint as an actor with San Diego Theatresports in 2004 and served as Musical Director for the Improv Asylum in Boston from 2004-2007. He was a cast member and puppeteer in Law and Puppet at ImprovBoston, an improvised version of Law and Order featuring puppets and humans. And although he does not now nor has he ever played basketball, Wecht was once a high school hoops coach at the Kent School.
