Lest ye worry for the health of the homunculus:
Iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing
Peppers
Baby cukes
Farm stand tomatoes
Heluva Good French Onion Dip (okay, I know)
Artichoke
Butter and sea salt dipping sauce for artichoke (okay, I know)
Cold tofu with soy sauce, bonito flakes and chopped beefsteak leaves
The cold tofu is something that mom would make when the weather got hot. It is so delicious, but must be eaten COLD. It’s better with the little seeds that grow on beefsteak plants, but the one that somehow reseeded itself into my garden isn’t that big yet. As for the French Onion dip, what can I say? The vegetables are really just a vehicle to get that stuff in my mouth. Crazy salty is something I seem to be craving.
And the artichoke? All I can say is, if I get to heaven and they aren’t serving artichokes, I’m leaving. They are my hands-down, no-holds-barred, all-time favorite. To put things in perspective, if I had to give up ice cream or artichokes, I think it might be ice cream.
!!

WAIT a second. When Matthew posted that picture of you a month ago with the pickles, cheese, and saltine cracker lunch….he was trying to tell us something, wasn’t he? We should have known!!
If you have a Trader Joe’s near you, try their Caramelized Onion Dip. I’m addicted to it. I’ve had it for dinner at least 6 times in the last month.
Robbi, don’t you realize artichokes are also vehicles to get dip (butter, or whatever) into your mouth as well? How much of the artichoke do you actually eat?
Peter – I was wondering if anyone would figure it out. Leave it to Dr. P!
Maria – tempt me not! The nearest Trader Joe’s is 40 minutes away! But I might just have to do it (or, better, send Matthew).
Veronica – yes yes. But it is a divine vehicle. The magic is eating them and taking a sip of milk in between bites. I know – weird, but it makes the milk taste like it’s made out of sugar. Which, as we all know, I’m a big fan of. And, of course, you’re right, there’s the butter too.
Robbi, I heart artichokes too – oh so much. But more than ice cream? Not so sure. Maybe. They’re also very good with lemon flavored mayonnaise. But better than ice cream??? Hmmmm.
Jenifer – I just had a discussion with Don about this. I think ice cream makes ME happy, artichokes make my MOUTH happy. Spiritual vs. gustatory delight. If I get to heaven and they aren’t serving up happiness, I’m leaving too.
