Every year, when the time comes to fill out my brackets, I survey the field, evaluate which teams I truly think have what it takes to win it all…and then pick Duke to win it all. I pick with my heart, and usually I am not rewarded. This year, things are different, as Duke stands on the threshold of its fourth national championship, with only the unlikely, upstart Butler Bulldogs standing in its way.
Behold the mighty Zouperman, who might just be the key to Duke’s deep run this year (be prepared to scroll; the dude is 7’1″).
Not surprisingly, in the final estimation, the Idiots’Books Bracket Challenge has rewarded the Duke homers among us.
My sister Lindsay, my mother, and I (all hopeless Duke fans), are atop the standings. Robbi (cleaving as she did to the top-seeded Jayhawks) is now but a faded memory of past glory.
We shall see what happens when the dust settles (and for the record, I in no way see tonight’s result as a foregone conclusion; I have much respect for Butler and what they’ve accomplished), but as a rabid Blue Devil loyalist, today is a very exciting one.
For those of you cheering for Butler tonight, I completely understand. I’d do the same if I were in your shoes.
But I’m utterly and unabashedly not.
Go Duke!
