As of next Friday, my father, the great John Swanson (AKA, Grandpa John), will officially retire after 35 years working to improve public health care, first for the State of Pennsylvania and, (for the past quarter century) at the American Academy of Family Physicians, a non-profit advocacy group for family doctors. If any of you who know my dad want to drop him a line of congratulations, he can be emailed by clicking here.
Here’s a photo of Dad and me, back in the day (yes, he was a dirty hippie once).
Good luck with your new life, Dad. And the next time I invite you to visit, be forewarned that my motives might not be entirely pure . . .

I was going to tell you that I saw an awfully cute baby photo of you yesterday, but now you’ve gone and posted it on the internet!
For those of you not in the know, Jessica was my lab partner in eighth grade earth science. She also works with my dad at the AAFP and has been known to mock me from time to time. My posting of the baby photo in question was definitely a preemptive strike.
I adore the picture. And I’m howling at the Air Tran vimeo!
What a loverly photo of you and your dad. I have one almost identical to it of my husband and son, with that same intense look that tiny babes often have.
Congrats to you, Mr. Swanson!
Congratulations and many wonderful adventures to your father.
I can’t get over that picture. I could pick you out f a line-up based on it.
Who’s mocking? I said it was cute!
