Early this morning I trundled Kato off to the doctor for his four-month checkup.
He is, according to the medical experts, 12lb, 10oz and 24 inches long, which places him in the 10-25th percentile range for both weight and length.
Robbi and I had been of the opinion that he was some sort of giant because of his relative biggerness to Alden. But it seems that we might just have a mini-man on our hands. For those of you who are wondering, Kato’s head is proportional to the rest of him, unlike his sister, who was in the first percentile in terms of weight, fifth percentile in terms of length, and 65th percentile in terms of head circumference.
Apparently, the insides of Kato’s ears are just fine, and his teeth are starting to come in. His neck is strong, and his heart is beating in just the right way.
He’s growing constantly, getting more alert, grasping at fingers with conviction, and starting to utter in that endearing, inchoate baby language. Soon he’ll be running wild in the playground with Alden, screaming and pronouncing and enacting his will.
But for now, and for a little while longer, I hope, he’s still my tiny baby boy.

:)
What a precious bug.
well now, don’t go believing that ‘kids grow up so fast’. how unscientific. They grow up at just the same speed as the rest of us humans, which in my case is so slow that i can’t even remember myself being a baby. Or even my 3 yr old being a baby – i am pretty sure it was at least a few lifetimes ago. you’ve got plenty of time, millions and millions of moments even, according to google, in the upcoming months, to savor the tiny tot’s undeniable adorableness.
Mamachi – it’s all of those millions of moments that are so problematic. Not enough room in my little brain!
