It’s never too late to treat yourself to some chocolates. Even if Valentine’s Day is over.
I got truffles from next door at Doug the Baker’s – oatmeal stout and nutmeg. The oatmeal stout ones are filled with a soft, creamy ganache that has a faint earthy flavor that goes nicely with the dark chocolate and nutty coating. The nutmeg ones are covered in little balls of puffed rice (or puffed something – they’re like the crunchy bits in a Nestle Crunch bar) – what a treat to break through the crispy outside to the deliciously rich nutmeg filling. Seriously, guys, these are to die for.
If you’re anywhere near Chestertown, you must come by Against the Grain and try them out. And, if you’re one of our lady readers, you can drool over Doug the Baker too, while you’re at it.
(I should note that these truffles were a gift from Annie across the street. There were originally four – one for each member of our family with teeth. Somehow I accidentally ate twice my share. Sorry, Kato.)

And I remember tiny Alden with letters spelling out “I <3 U"! Happy St. V's Day to all five of you.
Hello Matthew. For the record, I read your blog all the time. You guys are hilarious. I’ve been known to check the bakers out, too. ;)
