Hello, everyone!

It is Friday, which means I will provide you the answers to this week’s action-packed Matthew Draws challenge.

What I cannot provide this week is your thoughtful guesses. Because I am on the tundra in Alaska, where the internet is just a distant fantasy. I am enjoying this respite from all things virtual, but I do feel bad for you who will be temporarily cut off from seeing the pleasures of your wrong guesses posted on this blog.

Here was my first subject.

I think this drawing is not so bad and imagine that at least a few of you correctly identified her as Kathy Bates. (And that a few more of you, upon seeing the source photo below, will agree that I could have done worse in depicting her).

Next up is a drawing that, admittedly, got away from me. And yet, I am convinced that I was able to capture something essential: a mood, an aura, a conspicuous dentrifice?

There were plenty of other clues as well. The earrings? The nose studs, the garish sea of tats. Oh yes, my friends, this is none other than US Ambassador to North Korea Dennis Rodman.

Next up is a stylistic departure. For reasons that will be clear to you (if they aren’t already), I spent a bit of extra time on the eyes of my next subject. And, as a result, I think I did a fair job of capturing her actual appearance. We’ll see if any of you agree.

Yes, this doe-eyed creature is none other than (young) Liza Minnelli.

Looking at the source photo again now, I realize that I could have been much, much heavier with the eyeliner.

Finally, I gave you this fellow.

I am delighted with this drawing, which was, I’ll freely admit, a nod to my friend Greg, who guesses Christopher Walken every single time and has never (until this time, I hope) been correct.

Though it is entirely possible that in my attempt to actually draw Christopher Walken, I will have thrown poor Greg off the scent.

I do think I was able to capture the deranged nature of the man if not that sense that looking directly into his eyes could result in something akin to having one’s soul devoured by a pack of craven zombie wolves.

With that cheerful image, I will leave you. I do wish I could share your host of surely hilarious guesses to item #5. Indeed, reading them is often the highlight of my week. But for now, I will go sweep the floor, make the beds, and stir the macaroni. Just another day in the busy life of the tundra domestic.

Matthew Draws 30 will be posted next Friday, as scheduled.
