Let’s get right to it. I started you off with a softball, and most of you hit it into the right field bleachers.

In fact, ALL of you got this one right, for the first set of perfect answers in Matthew Draws history.

This is, in fact, none other than Whoopi Goldberg (though I must admit that one of you was defeated by your finger in typing “Whooping Goldberg.”

Some other responses I appreciated:

Whoopi Goldberg w/mudslide cheekbones

The Whoopster

Whoopie Goldberg and/or Diane Keaton, if you add the necktie

Whoopie Goldberg. I can’t believe I got it! I have NO DOUBTS! Whoopi! Woopi! Whoopeeee!

I must admit, I’m contemplating retirement, wanting to go out on top, and all. But it seemed only fitting to finish the rest of the round first and see how the rest of my subjects fared.

This was model #2.

Reviewing your answers, I was extremely pleased. Eighty percent of you correctly identified this chap. But those of you who did not offered some winning responses:

Putin, Vladimir

James Earl Jones

Sidney Poitier

Martin Luther King, Jr.

A Shel Silverstein character

Gasp! Plastic surgery gone wrong.

The correct answer, as many of you know is Alfred Hitchcock.

Though I’m thoroughly pleased with whichever one of you suggested that this was “Alfred Hitchcock after just snorting a squirrel brain up his left nostril [I never knew he was into that].”

At this point, I’m still feeling very good about myself. Which means there is nowhere to go but down.

Let us turn to #3.

The good news? One of you got it right!

The worse news is that ONLY one of you got it right. Let’s review the other responses.

This was not Jon Cryer, Gilbert Godfried, Robert Palmer, Liam Neeson, Daniel Craig, Ryan Seacrest, Alec Baldwin, Harvey Keitel, Edward Norton, Rick Astley, Alan Cumming, David Lynch, Sam Rockwell, Bruce Springsteen.

Some of my favorite misfires:

Freud’s son

Updated Bela Lugosi

Kaiser Sose with John Travolta’s hairline

The disgruntled victim of a lapel theft

And the only correct answer:

A young Robert Downey, Jr. Pre-Ironman/facial hair days

At this point my confidence is starting to flag. And so I look toward #4 to lift me back up again. Or to do the opposite. Which, history suggests, is far more likely.

I should have known the relative success of subjects #1 and #2 was but an illusion, but still it’s hard to fade down the home stretch.

Here are the answers that were not right:

This is not Paula Deen. Nor is it “Paula Deen (on a good day).”

Not Elizabeth Taylor or Roseanne.

Not “Yikes”

Not Nancy Grace’s evil twin.

Not Britney Spears.

Not Hillary Clinton.

Not Lindsay Lohan or Amanda Bynes.

Not “Lara Flynn Boyle (circa now)”

Not “My second worst nightmare (clowns being my worst).”

Not “Snooki without her pouf”

Not Satan

Not Linda Tripp

Not Rosie O’Donnell

Not Joy Behar

Not Greta Van Susteren

Not “percussionist for Deranged Deranged”

Not “Kate Winslet as an 80-year-old Bridgette Bardot.

Nope, this is, as one of you correctly guessed, Amy Pohler.

Sorry, Amy. I’m so, so sorry.

And now for our bonus question:

If you had to attend prom with one of these people, who would it be, and why?

With no ado:

Jon Cryer, because, well, Pretty in Pink!

Whoopi. She’s the only one who doesn’t look like she wants to hurt me. Or, she looks like she wants to hurt me the least.

Paula Deen, so I could stand her up after FTD delivered the skunk roadkill wrist corsage I got her

Whoopi. It’s that “poorly dressed bridesmades make the bride look great” theory, I guess.

Robert Palmer. Because at least he’d bring the jams.

If the prom was in the Kent County High School gym, as mine was, I might be inclined to skip it altogether.

Putin. Because we’d ride horseback. Without shirts.

Definitely Alfred Hitchcock. Dude would have interesting conversation to offer while dancing to Billy Ocean songs.

#3, because he’s really gone the extra mile to look his best with those hair plugs.

#2. He probably wouldn’t try to get fresh.

#2, plastic surgery anti-testimonial, because he definitely needs a confidence boost.

Kaiser Sose, of course. He’d have the whole school believing I was popular or they were dead by the end of the night.

And that’s a wrap. Overall, I give myself a C. On one hand, I created a drawing so recognizable that all of you guessed correctly. And followed that up with one that most of you got. The fact that I followed with two clunkers was redeemed by the fact that both of them yielded at least one right answer.

And so I will go forth with the kind of special pride reserved for the extraordinarily average.
