Our user-tracking software suggests that lots of people read this blog. We sometimes wonder why. For pictures of babies, we suspect. For occasional amusement, perhaps. But we had no idea the extent to which some of you rely on us for basic information. Like the weather, for example.

Yesterday, a reader wrote in begging for an update on Irene.

Hello Idiots,

I’ve been hunkered in my shelter for two weeks now, wondering when—and if—the hurricane is going to end. Please tell me what’s happening outside. I’m staying underground until the skies are clear and your pie is gone.

I’m getting really tired of pork and beans.

Sincerely,

Wilma

Ah yes, the pie. Here you have it, Wilma.

The hurricane is over. It’s safe to go outside.
