Most of the illustrations Robbi draws end up on paper. They are eventually thrown away or recycled or shoved into a shelf to be forgotten. Last winter, she was asked to create a different kind of image—an illustration of two girls on bicycles to accompany an inscription on a granite marker in a memorial garden dedicated to beloved Chestertown resident Kitty Baxter (who passed last winter) and her cousin and lifelong friend.

The other day, we drove out to Geoergetown, MD (about 20 minutes from Chestertown), to see the marker in place.

It’s a simple line, but it captures the youthfulness and joy with which Kitty would want to be remembered.

And it’s going to be there for a long time.
