I love my family very much. Very much. I love to spend time with them. They make my life rich and wonderful.

And yet it would be a terrible lie to say that I am not delighted to be here in my hotel room in Boston with two beds, no children, no dog, and no geriatric (and recently incontinent) cat.

There is something deliciously quiet and clean and orderly and uncomplicated about this private room on the 22nd floor. My conference was stimulating and interesting, but now I am tired and so I will go to bed with no interference.

I would be happy if Robbi were here with me, but she is needed in Chestertown to care for the aforementioned menagerie. I thank her for her sacrifice.

Given the options between continuing this post and slipping into either one of my two beds and going to sleep, the choice is obvious.

Good night.
