Alden’s third birthday is on Thursday, but while we are here in Kansas City with Grandpa John and Grandma Judy, it seemed fitting to do a dress rehearsal.
The occasion was marked with an ice cream cake from DQ. Robbi noted jealously that she had never gotten an ice cream cake for her birthday. Fortunately, Alden was willing to share.
Earlier in the day, on the drive back from Oklahoma, we stopped at a playground by the side of the road so that Kato could get his wiggles out.
Technically speaking, we could celebrate Alden’s non-birthday 364 days a year.
We’re heading back east this afternoon and will be back in the barn tomorrow morning. Basketball resumes in approximately 57 hours.

I think one of the great rewards of being a parent is getting to enjoy the stuff “we never got as a kid,” like ice cream cakes and play dough fun factories.
Robbi: Let me know if you need a break from all of this basketball. It’s got to be maddening. Oh – perhaps that’s why it’s called March Madness!
Wow! Robbi, I never had a DQ birthday cake either. Pout pout.
Matthew, for a minute there, I thought you were going to say that Kato drove that little gizmo from Oklahoma to KC. Quel venture!
Hurry home!
