Perhaps you know our good friends Donald and Ann McColl, or perhaps you don’t. If you do, you know that there never were two finer, kinder, more generous people. And if you don’t know them, then your life is just slightly less remarkable than it would be if you did. They’re just that great. We are lucky to live directly across the street from them.

Yesterday was perhaps the greatest day of Donald and Ann’s lives, which made it perhaps the greatest day of ours.

Yesterday, they welcomed Charlotte Marie Alexandra McColl into their (and all of our) lives.

If you are the sort who dabbles in baby statistics, here are Charlotte’s basics:

Weight: 7lb, 3oz
Length: 19″
Adorableness: 10+ (on scale of 5)

Have you ever seen a more radiant mom?

Have you ever seen a more beautiful family?

Meanwhile, back in Chestertown, the first McColl child slept without dignity in Iggy’s bed (after Iggy had stolen his).

Poor Tanker has no idea what changes are about to unfold. And neither do any of us, really.

Donald and Ann: you have our unqualified love. There never were two better, more worthy parents in the world. We simply couldn’t be happier for you.

Charlotte: you have no idea how lucky you are to be born a McColl, how many people already love you, and how much fun we’re going to have on South Queen Street in the years to come.

Alden is already threatening to loan you various dresses and subject you to various “fun” experiments (all well-intentioned).
