…I put on my little tie.

I wear it to let the world know that I mean business while reminding the world that I’m really not so tough, and that if it (the cruel, cruel world) wants to kick my ass, it probably could with one hand tied behind its back, but that it should probably treat me more gently than it would a guy with a really big tie.

I also just like how the little tie looks.

As for the t-shirt (a gift from our good friends Ann and Donald who recently returned from Tanzania), “Mzungu,” means “white person” in Swahili. I wear it to remind myself that when the world is trying to kick my ass, and I’m looking for ways to escape or fight back, jumping is not an option.

No, it seems that I’ll just have to buckle down and concentrate. Focus on my work. It’s maddening.
