For months now—pretty much as soon as school ended last June—Alden has been asking when she gets to go back. It’s been tough keeping her distracted all summer when all she wants to do is learn.
This past Tuesday, she finally got her wish. FMS had an hour-long orientation for all the kids in the Primary classroom, which meant that Kato got to come along as well.
Last year Kato was in Pre-Primary with the 2-3 year-olds, but now he’s running with the big guys. Once inside, Alden showed him the ropes, including the job board.
Kato was pleased to discover his birthday elephant.
And Alden’s.
An hour was just enough to meet one’s classmates and get some of the early wiggles out.
Yesterday, Kato went in by himself for a four-hour orientation for kids who were new to Pre-Primary. We asked him how it went, and he said “Fine.” We asked him what he did, and he said, “Nothing.” We asked him if he wanted to go back the next day and he said, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”
I had no idea that doing nothing could be so enjoyable.
Today, at long last, was the first official day of school.
The kids were excited as we bundled them in for the ride to Worton.
They were excited as we forced them to stand out front, posing for the sake of posterity.
Actually, Alden has been waiting for weeks to wear her new “school clothes” purchased when Grandma Judy visited last month and was only too happy to do a bit of prolonged mugging.
Kato, on the other hand, objected to the scrutiny of the lens.
In his opinion, all of this photography was getting in the way of his education.
But a mother’s quest for golden memories will sometimes win out.
Eventually Robbi achieved the perfect “First Day of School” shot.
At which point, it was time to go inside.
Where absolutely nothing happened all day long. Or so we were led to believe.
But do they want to go back again tomorrow?
Yes! Yes! Yes!
