While Jiho was in town, we wanted to get a few family portraits, and so we sat down at the dining room table and tried our best to get everyone to smile and look at the camera at the same time.
It was a losing proposition. And yet, I love the shot below. I love Alden’s demonstrative protestation of my cheer.
After the portrait, we decided to draw. Apparently, I was in an “open mouth” mood.
My drawing skills are infantile at best. Fortunately, the kids have Robbi to show them the way.
When it comes to art, Alden is deliberate, executing tiny figures with focused intensity.
Kato, on the other hand, gets his whole arm involved. He holds the pen much further from the tip.
Their styles reflect their personalities.
Just as my style reflects mine.
Alden decided to intervene.
Whatever, she did, it worked. I think.
My attitude adjusted, we went back to it.
Here’s hoping my kids find something they love as much as I love making books with their mom, be it art or growing their fingernails really, really long.
I’m pulling for art.
Note: The photo(s) in this post were taken by photographer/blogger/developer/promoter of clean code Jiho Sohn. I encourage you to check out his site. Furthermore, Robbi, Matthew, Alden, Kato, August, and Iggy are currently on the Alaskan tundra, fishing commercially for sockeye salmon and trying to avoid stray bears. They will return on July 17, at which point real-time blogging will resume.
