Ideally, I would have written this post on Monday so that you would have had a few days to think about it, but as it is, you will have to be spontaneous. Yes you, who live in the general vicinity of Chestertown and have a child aged 2-6. You who want the very best for said child. You who have always been curious about Montessori education but have always been afraid to ask.
You will be delighted to know that Friendship Montessori School, Kent County’s own educational jewel for the smallest schoolgoers, is having an open house THURSDAY. Actually, there are TWO open houses on Thursday, one from 1:00pm-3:00pm and another from 6:00pm-7:30pm.
Friendship Montessori School is at 25528 Worton Lynch Road (just minutes from the Kent County Community Center).
I have written before with great enthusiasm about our family’s experiences at FMS. Here’s a piece I wrote for the Chestertown Spy and here is the story of my “Dad’s Day” visit to FMS last year.
I don’t do much endorsing, but I love FMS. I love the teachers. I love the philosophy. I love that my kids get to spend their days in such a thoughtful, loving, stimulating, and fun environment.
This fall, Alden will be in Kindgergarten and Kato will be in primary. Next spring, provided he is ready for the challenge, August will join the pre-primary classroom, at which point I fully expect to be issued some sort of frequent flier card equivalent.
If you consider me a person of low credibility, here are some thoughts on Montessori from some other people.
If you can’t make it on Thursday, call FMS to set up a time to come visit the school. The teachers would be happy to show you around. Because they are wonderful, kind, patient, and welcoming. Because they are the best.
