The Bobbledy experiment rolls on. On Monday, we mailed out the second book, this one called Gorillas in the Kitchen.

We spent all day finishing the book. Tilly did the trimming.

Robbi folded the letters.

And I stuffed the envelopes.

Here is the book itself.

If the cover looks incomplete, that’s because it is. Although I wrote the first page, and Robbi drew a series of illustrations that appear as prompts throughout, the point of Gorillas is that kids get to write the rest of story (and draw the rest of the pictures) themselves.

Here are a few of Robbi’s prompts:

As the book begins, there are encouraging notes to the young artists.

And then the prompts end, and kids are left to imagine. Who, for example, is looking out the windows of this rocket ship?

At the end, kids get to draw their own author’s portrait and write their own bios (with a little help from us, of course).

We’ve asked the Bobbledy kids to send us their finished books. First of all, we can’t wait to see what they come up with, but also, we’re going to pick one of the books to professionally publish and send out to all the other kids in the club.

Anyone who wants to give it a try can order a copy of Gorillas in the Kitchen, but only Bobbledy club members are eligible to have their books published.

If you’ve been biding your time for the perfect moment to sign that small person in your life up for Bobbledy, we still have a few copies left.
