It was a day like any other.
I got up. I ate breakfast. I took the kids to school. As I clipped Alden into her booster seat, she pointed out that Baby Hippo was also buckled in.
I did not have the heart to tell her that the “seat” in question was intended for securely holding beverages and not for stowaway hippos.
Later that afternoon, I spread a lot of our books out on a black tablecloth that Robbi might get a good photo of them for an upcoming presentation.
Suddenly, we are on the speaker’s circuit again, in spite of deciding to spend a few months catching up on work instead. The photo above is being taken for a presentation on Salt Lake City in mid-June. More on that to come.
Wednesday is one of the days August is home from school. Midway through the afternoon, we took out the Play Doh, and he asked me to make him a “little boy,” and a “doggie.”
August was on board with my little boy (if grudgingly), but in appraising the dog, insisted that I had made a “little goat” instead.
He made a series of impromptu goat noises to drive the point home. He didn’t seem upset about my efforts, but he was clear that I had failed in my attempt to sculpt something even vaguely resembling a canine. Which makes sense, I suppose, given my struggles creating accurate likenesses in the two-dimensional realm.
Speaking of which, Matthew Draws will return tomorrow. The technical problems have been worked out, for now, at least. I’d wish you luck, but I don’t think it will help.
