At the risk of oversaturating you with awesomeness on a Tuesday morning, I’m here to share another fun thing to look at in your (ample) spare time.
Some of you might know that we are lucky enough to have some pretty amazing friends. Not to shortchange everyone else, but at the moment, I’m going to focus on two in particular:
Drew is the singer/songwriter/purported man of God with whom we collaborated on Volume 24, The New South. Brian is the writer/fiddler/purported man of the New Weird with whom we collaborated on Volume 21, The Last of the Real Small Farmers. To complete the love triangle, these two are now teaming up on the blog One, two, three, shoot, where Drew writes a song and Brian writes a story based on a common prompt.
So far they’ve done two of these, and I love them both. The first, “God Forecasts Tornadoes” features an awesome ballad (I know, “ballad” somehow sounds lame instead of awesome, but this one is awesome) with lots of city names, piano chords and moody beats, and a story with lots of sadness, misfortune and apocalypse. The second, “Strategic Oblivion” features a rockin’ ditty with lots of real estate law, banjo that sounds like guitar, and emotive choruses, and a story with lots of real estate law, dialogue, and displacement. The idea is that you listen to the song while reading the story, and see how they accidentally inform one another (I know! – it’s totally weird that they both addressed issues of zoning when writing about “strategic oblivion”). I am incapable of such rub-your-tummy-pat-your-headedness, but after a couple run-throughs I was able to manage it.
Head on over there and give it a try. And don’t forget to vote. I want them to keep doing this. Plus, voting is fun.
See?
