We went for a walk the other night. It was First Friday, and so we set out to see what we would see. We were drawn by the sound of music down toward the water. A jazz band was playing on the lawn behind the Custom House.

And there, anchored at the town pier, was the packet boat we had been hearing so much about.

Now when you come to visit us, you can not only stroll along the scenic Chester River, but you can head out on a scenic cruise on this 65-foot, 1920s-style yacht, which partners with Occasions Catering for various food-themed tours as well.

If you want to learn more from an actual journalist, here’s an article from the Spy.

The kids enjoyed the view from the upper deck.

There are various benches and etc. for cruising in style.

But after exploring the boat for a while, they wanted to get down to the water for a little bit of fishing.

They find reeds or branches in the bushes by the river and cast their “lines.”

They never seem to catch anything.

But they sure do enjoy themselves.

After a while we wandered back up High Street toward the barn, but not before stopping by Evergrain to check in on the latest.

Doug the Baker always seems to be up to something new. This night was no different.

For those of you who have not heard (and judging from the crowds, the word has gotten out), Evergrain now offers gelato in many flavors.

August refused to be impressed by the mere offering. He demanded evidence of quality. And so Doug obliged, offering a complimentary sample.

The critic did not speak, but his opinion was evident.

Add another item to the long list of things that we love about Chestertown.

Next up, a ride on the Packet Boat. As soon as we can find the time.
