Yesterday, we got a big, flat package in the mail. Robbi, who is skeptical of just about everything, was skeptical.

However, the contents were most agreeable: oversized stand-up table displays featuring the cover of Ten Thousand Stories.

These lovely bits of marketing schwag were sent to us from the excellent folks at Chronicle, who are eager to do all they can to help us sell our book.

See how nicely they stand on our table?

Look at the stunning mechanics that make it possible. We’ve seldom seen anything more beautiful.

The beauty, of course, comes less from the clever cardboard engineering and more from the fact that we DID NOT HAVE TO MAKE THEM OURSELVES. After eight years of doing absolutely everything by ourselves, this sort of help from the powers that be is sheer epiphany. Designing, printing, spraymounting, and trimming such signs are exactly the sort of production work that is necessary but time gobbling and soul numbing.

Robbi’s skepticism melted away into a fury of delight.

The woman will not stop smiling and jumping. Frankly, I fear for my safety.

I miss good old skeptical Robbi. She’ll be back soon enough, I’m sure.
