Last night, we took a train to Chinatown for hand-pulled noodles at a little hole in the wall sort of place.

The peanut butter noodles were a hit.

I had mine with the house specialty, fish balls. Delicious.

The noodles in my soup were long. Really long.

After dinner, we decided to walk back to the Village by heading up Broadway. There were all sorts of hip stores with amazing displays.

And one sad store with a bleak forecast.

This morning, we had pancakes.

And sang from streetlamps.

And did some marketing.

We’re going to be here until next Friday.

We have a lot of eating to do between now and then.

This afternoon, we took a train uptown to Columbus Circle, where the buildings were tall and very shiny.

We headed into Central Park to meet my high school friend Holden and his daughters Calla and Vivian. Our destination: Sheep Meadow.

The girls had fun running around in the grass. Vivian.

Calla.

And Alden.

On our way back to Holden’s apartment, we did some more shopping.

It was awful.

There were more thrills when we got back to Holden’s building. If there is an elevator in Chestertown, we have never been invited to use it.

After dinner, we caught a train back to the Village, for bed, to rest for another day tomorrow.

I love having three kids, but I love to have occasional chances to spend time with just one of them for an hour or two, or a few days, as the case may be. This little girl is all right.

Robbi, Kato, and August arrive tomorrow night. I wonder if they will recognize Alden and me now that we are so slick and urban.

Something tells me they probably will.
