Without really meaning to, we have taken a bit of a break from this blog. Apologies for that. Instead of not doing much and talking about it, we spent a few days not doing much and keeping it to ourselves.

But what have we been up to? As I said, not much.

On Thursday, we drove through the night down a gravel road to pick up some friends.

For a rather delicious dinner at a restaurant in Oxford. Robbi had duck, which came with a half pear and mashed potatoes shaped to look like another half pear. By all accounts, it was delicious.

On Friday, we accomplished nothing, had no fun at all. Lucky for you, we took no pictures.

On Saturday, Alden took her Tang Soo Do test. Provided she passes, she will move from a yellow belt with a white stripe to a yellow belt with no stripes.

The prospect of this is rather exciting to Alden.

Yesterday, in search of Feng Shui perfection, Robbi got Medieval on our bathroom cabinets (I have a feeling that there will be a longer, more detailed post about her efforts in the days to come).

It was too gruesome to watch. And so I took the kids to Costco.

One might rightly ask whether I might have paused for a moment to let Alden change out of her Tang Soo Do outfit before taking her to the epicenter of American bulk grocery commerce. What one probably doesn’t realize is that Alden wears said outfit with pride. Such pride, in fact, that limiting her exposure to said outfit by insisting she change into street clothing would, in fact, have been the less charitable act.

As I drove toward Costco, I had told myself that we “just needed a few things.” It was going to be a “light” visit to Costco, as opposed to all previous visits, which have been anything but.

And yet…

How does this happen? How does this always happen?

Once the groceries were paid for (and a second mortgage taken on the family home), we stopped for a picnic in the Costco dining area. If you do not know, an entire family can stuff themselves silly for about four dollars. Here we are in the process of said stuffing. I don’t think I need to point out the silly.

On the way home, we stopped at Lowes to pick up a new ceiling fan. To the children’s dismay, they learned that Santa Claus is animatronic. But, to their delight, they learned that Santa can really shake it. All in all, the encounter was a wash.

When we got home, Robbi was still in the midst of her furious cleaning. Or at the end of it, depending on how you look at it.

It was puzzling. She was clearly unconscious, as if seized by fatigue. Surely, it is unpleasant to clean all day long, and yet she had an undeniable smile on her face.

Suspicious, I went to check the five pound bag of chocolate chips I got the last time I went to Costco, but it was still intact.

Which led me to believe that she was just happy to be asleep. I did not disturb her. This was yesterday at 4:00pm. I figure she’ll wake up eventually.
