The past few days were Crazy Days in Chestertown, which means that merchants set up tables in front of their stores and offered special discounts, such as 75 cent ice cream cones at Stam Drugs.
I took the kids for an afternoon treat.
August chose vanilla.
Apparently, his cone was particularly delicious, as evidenced by the interest shown by his predatory siblings.
Also of note: Iggy’s boyfriend Tanker came for a sleepover. Note the separate beds. House rules prohibit overt snuggling until they are both 16.
Also: I have recently discovered the amazing public pool at the Kent County Recreation Center. I’ve always known it was there, but for some reason, it never occurred to us to actually go until this past week. Apparently, it is the largest pool “of its kind” on the Eastern Shore. If you haven’t been, it’s really worth a visit, especially if you have little kids. There is a huge, shallow lagoon with two water slides, various fountains, and a feature that dumps buckets of water on one’s head. I was able to unleash the kids and let them play.
At first, August was unconvinced.
But then he met the ladies.
Kato showed him how to use the fountains to stay cool.
Alden and her friend Liza dominated the water slides.
Kato dominated the fountains.
But only for so long.
Saturday, I took the kids across the bridge.
But not before stopping for some donuts.
Our destination: My friend Matt’s pool. The kids had caught the swimming bug and were clamoring for more of the same.
Alas, Matt’s pool lacks a large, shallow lagoon, so August improvised.
He spent a good half hour in his private deckside hot tub.
Kato preferred to stretch out and take in some rays.
Later, we collected fallen nuts of some sort.
Stored them for the coming winter.
And celebrated with a well-deserved rest.
It was a quiet weekend, a restful weekend. Onward, then, into the week ahead, whatever it may bring.
