The front-loading baby carrier had been out of circulation for a while. When August showed up, we took it out of storage and dusted it off. It’s amazing how well it works and how easy it is on the back (as I turn into an increasingly old man, I care about my back). And, because of the way it’s constructed, there’s lots of body contact, which keeps the baby calm. It’s kind of like a walking snuggle.
In any case, lately we’ve been using the carrier a lot to carry August around. But I hadn’t noticed how closely Kato was paying attention. Yesterday, he picked up the empty carrier from the floor (of course, we left it on the floor) and brought it to me. “USE IT!” he demanded.
And so we did.
I was surprised how easy it was to carry Kato in his (relative) bulk. I wouldn’t want to do it for ten miles, but it would work for for a stroll across town if need be. After a few minutes, Kato said, “GET OUT!” (he is the master of the forcefully uttered two-word sentence). And so I let him down.
Of course, there are always several sets of eyes upon me these days, weighing my every move, evaluating my every intention. I shouldn’t have been surprised by the next request, or its source.
Let’s just say I’m lucky that my kids are on the light side, or else the photos in this post would be of me wincing in pain or getting fitted for a back brace.
