Our three children can be a terrible distraction, as has been well documented on these pages. Some days, either Robbi or I takes all three and gets out of town so the other can work. Today was such a day. I took the kids and headed to IKEA, granting Robbi hours and hours of uninterrupted quiet time to get her work done.

Apparently, instead of doing said work, Robbi got a shredder and shredded every single document in the house. Years of pent up shredding urge were exorcised in a relentless flourish. When the kids and I got home, the tower of unwanted documents was gone, replaced by a huge box full of shredded bits. Robbi was beaming. I congratulated her on her conquest.

We started getting ready for dinner, chatting about our respective days, etc. After a while, I realized Kato was missing. And so we went to look for him. Apparently, he was in the studio. Apparently, he had discovered the fruits of Robbi’s labor. Apparently, he was feeling left out of August’s endless demolition derby.

As it turns out, shredding the paper is only half the fun.

Then Alden, part of the Kato search party, decided to get in on the action.

She dug deep and picked up a big handful.

And suddenly, that snowfall we’ve all been waiting for arrived.

Sometimes, a little chaos is called for. I’m just glad we have a good vacuum.
