On Friday morning, Robbi, Kato, and I will be piling into the minivan and driving north to the 2010 Toronto Comic Arts Festival. (Alden will once again spend the weekend on the couch, with her hands folded, waiting in patient silence for our return.)

This will be our first visit to TCAF, but we have heard such great things about the show over the past few years that we are glad to be a part of this year’s fun. This is our first show with an application process, meaning we had to submit work, write an essay, etc. in order to prove our worthiness. Somehow, we fooled the Canadians into thinking we belonged in their esteemed midst. (After this weekend, we suspect the Canadians will be a lot more choosy moving forward.)

In addition to manning the Idiots’Books table, Robbi and I will be appearing on a panel on Saturday, the topic being “Comics as Art Objects: Form vs Function.” We will be joining a handful of talented creators (including our friend Matt Wiegle of Partyka fame) in discussing the ways in which the “thingness” of the book is as important as (or sometimes more important than) its content. At least I think that’s what we’re supposed to talk about. Time will tell.

In anticipation of TCAF, which seems to generate a great deal of excitement around Toronto, the National Post ran a series of interviews with participants. Here’s a link to their conversation with Robbi and me.
