There was no basketball yesterday, and even though Sting and Dave Matthews were in the offing downtown, Mom and I decided to stay north of the city to visit with family and eat delicious food.

We lunched with my grandma, aunt, and cousin on the banks of lovely Lake Lanier. The food was good, but not deep-fried.

This was not the case at dinner time, when we opted for Folks Southern Kitchen, which made great claims for its own excellence.

The choices were plentiful.

No matter what one orders, he is welcome to visit the bean bar. One crock pot is filled with rice and the other with beans. There is no limit to the number of times one may refill one’s bowl.

I took but one trip to the bean bar in an effort to conserve ample stomach real estate for other fare.

Fried green tomatoes, for example.

And country fried steak, mashed potatoes, fried pickles, and peach muffin.

And, of course, homemade ‘nanner puddin’ for dessert.

I left Folks in some pain, but the kind that comes layered on great heaps of pleasure.

Now on to the basketball.
