I often wonder if designers like Sagmeister get carte blanche when they do work for other people, or if they get whipped into compromise just like everyone else. I suppose the true talent lies in being able to create something amazing in spite of being whipped into compromise.
This is why I work for me and Matthew. We rarely demand anything of me, other than that I include Matthew’s words in whatever I’m doing.
Ah, but if only I were a design god, with a budget to make die-cut book sleeves! Though I suppose he didn’t get there by pandering to the vanity of his spouse.
