Apparently, there is a bit of a bidding war going on between two subscribers (see the comments below the post I just linked to), both of them mothers whose children have recently flown the coop but who are still, in all likelihood, years from the grandparent phase. These two are both jockeying for ownership of Kato, making vague but compelling promises in an attempt to one-up one another and win the prize. I know from experience that auctions tend to do better when there are more interested parties in the mix, so I thought we’d throw it open to the entire readership. What would you pay (or trade) for Kato?
Here is the item in question (father not included):
We’ll consider all offers and, if sufficiently compelled, will award custody a week from now (it will take us that long to have the necessary papers drawn up).
Interestingly, no one has clamored for the right to claim Alden (whose pants have not been loyal companions of late).
In the interest of equal opportunity, we’ll hear offers for her as well. Perhaps you’d be willing to part with a pair of old socks or a box of stale crackers?

Awwwww….. I”m a huge Alden fan. Throw in Stinky Hippo and make it a three-fer. But what’s 3 X a treasure worth? A life in a place you love, snuggled in, all hidden in a building without a front door but lots of vantage spots for peering out? A life with your soulmate, creating art together? A close network of family, friends, and fans? Sadly (given how terrific your Three Musketeers are), you already have it all and there’s no price we could pay.
Mazel tov!
Looks like Virginia folded. Nonetheless, I better sit back for a while and see what happens.
Besides, has it occurred to you that Alden might be working the situation? For instance, did she dress Kato in that particularly fetching outfit? And intentionally don those pants with the bad elastic?
Yup…I best stay out of this for now…
You two folded too quickly. Are you concerned that the authorities might get involved? I’ll have you know that I was biding my time as a silent bidder – prepared to really up the ante to keep my babies, if need be. And then I could pay Matthew all that money, and we would be rich AND happy. I think that was HIS plan, anyway.
Unfortunately, on or about the 20th of May 2009, as part of the official Baby Reallocation Project, Kato was awarded to me. You have been wonderful caretakers, but I must protest at you selling my rightful baby! Please relinquish all claims at once and deliver him promptly!
My concern was that I could not afford them.
Seriously, tell me the next time you’ll be in my area for an event and I’ll very, very happily come play with one or both of them if I am in town.
Hmm… Do they cook?
Aubrey:
No, they do not cook. Nor do they write masters theses. I think it’s high time you get ahold of yourself and take responsibility for own affairs. If you manage it, let me know how it goes. I might just consider doing it, too.
