NOTE: In spite of what the small print above might imply, this is a post by ROBBI, not MATTHEW.
Greetings from the Flower Show everyone! I am painfully typing this out with one finger on Matthew’s iPhone while I burp Baby Kato with the other hand, so believe me when I say, people, that this whole blogging thing is a labor of love. Also, I would like you to note that I am not using any of those annoying texting abbreviations that make me sound like an overstimulated tween, OMG, LOL.
Now, I suppose I should be posting all kinds of photos of flowers, prize-winning plants, and the latest gardening equipment, seeing as I’m at the FLOWER Show, but I must admit that the only thing that has gotten me excited enough to pull out the camera this year has been the hot turkey sandwich booth where I got everyone lunch yesterday.
The convention center where the Flower Show is held is conveniently located right across the street from the Reading Terminal Market, which is a covered market housing scores of booths selling fresh-baked apple strudels and Chinese food and gyros and cheesesteaks and bee balm and everything in between. It’s the best. Unfortunately it is always such a mob scene during the Flower Show that we usually don’t have the time to get over there, and end up eating muffins we’ve taken from the hotel’s complimentary continental breakfast for lunch instead.
Luckily there was a considerable break in the sales action yesterday, so I was sent over to get us some good eats. There were about twenty people in front of me in line, but it was totally worth it.
The lagging sales must be the fault of this bad economy of ours, because it certainly isn’t because of a lack of dazzling inventory. For example, you can purchase a recycled cardboard accordion vase that also doubles as a schwank hat.
For reference, here’s what the vase looks like before Matthew puts it on his head.
And here it is worn farmer-style (Matthew’s Kansas roots add a winning authenticity, don’t you think?).
And, for the coup de grace, here is the same vase worn deranged Russian florist style (not sure how he qualified for that modeling gig).
Who wouldn’t want to buy that? (man sold separately)

Don’t do the reading terminal crowds (food great, crowd BAD) when you can get Vietnamese hoagies just one block further away at Q.T. Two 20 something asian Temple grads opened it up with their moms doing all the cooking. it’s great. 48th N. 10th.
Or, if you can really step out, get some noodle bowls from Nan Zhou on race between 8th and 9th. so glorious.
Rory – thanks for the tips. Noodle bowls sound awesome and are right up the street from our hotel. I hope they’re open late…!
Hey there Robbi! I’m coming down to the flower show tomorrow (Saturday) and will be on the look out for you!
Don – if you can, come on Sunday… I’m actually not going to be here Saturday because I’ll be back home to visit with Matthew’s dad, who will be in town. But the whole famdamily will be up on Sunday – and my brother too, so you can talk St. Mary’s together. :)
Hope we get to see you –
