Kato started school yesterday. With some reluctance, I might add. Coming along while one’s sister gets dropped off is one thing. Carrying one’s backpack and lunchbox on the long walk to the front door is another matter entirely.
But in spite of the butterflies, all of us eventually have to take that big first step inside.
It helps when there is a coathook waiting with our name on it.
And when someone has carefully prepared a cubby in which to place one’s dearest fuzzy friend.
And when someone has had the thoughtfulness and foresight to print your birthday on the wall.
And when the nicest person in the world (her name is Leah) takes you by the hand and helps you put together a puzzle.
Under these conditions, the first day of school is not so bad.
Especially when you get to use a wire net to lift colorful fish from a bowl full of green water.
While Kato was thus engrossed, we kissed him and bid him farewell. There was, apparently, 30 seconds of vocal protest followed by a full day of fun and new friends.
While Kato and Alden were at school, August ate everything in the house.
And Iggy and her boyfriend Tanker took a six-hour nap.
At the end of the day, we went to fetch Kato, who had just woken up from his own nap.
He was still a little sleepy, but the report was positive. School is fun, apparently.
And they give you snacks.

LOL, I love the way you guys share your life. You make me smile every time I drop in. What a good thing!
Happy New Year with hugs,
Clare
P.S. Got the fabulous Eph poster and can’t wait to give it to my son!
What a great first day for Kato! I visited him at lunch, where he was cheerfully nibbling his cheese while discussing the pros and cons of raw veggies with his classmates. Even better second day today!
Hint: a picture of the school sign would be a nice addition to future posts!
Holli
He’ll love it there (&, yes, Leah is the nicest person in the world!). I’m surprised Kato didn’t get hooked while sib dropping last year tho. I always had a tough time getting Angus out of there & to HIS school cuz Simon’s was so much more interesting.
& Holli, shameless stumping!
Stu – well, we hadn’t been planning to start him until the fall, but he did, indeed, get hooked.
As for Holli’s stumping – well, SOMEBODY’S gotta do it! Friendship Montessori is a true treasure and more people need to know about it!!!
Thank you Robbi! This is year 21 for FMS, and still we hear: “There is a MONTESSORI SCHOOL in Kent County?”
