Today, after dropping Alden off at school, the boys and I headed to the “rainbow playground” in Centreville. The kids label playgrounds by the color of the slides. Hence, the Chestertown plaground is “blue,” the Worton playground is “yellow,” and the Church Hill playground is “green.” Because the Centreville playground bucks the trend by featuring slides of several colors, it is known as “rainbow.”
I should have mentioned that we stopped at Dunkin Donuts en route. When we got there, we settled in for a picnic.
Kato and August may be brothers, but each has his own approach to eating a donut. Kato sitting politely on the bench, August marching about on the tabletop.
Kato focusing his efforts on the choice cuts.
August compensating for his singular tooth by doing a bit of pre-chewing with his fist.
After our picnic, we climbed. August in his way.
And Kato in his.
But they rode on the “bumblebuzz” together.
And swung side by side.
And then we went to look at the river that flows nearby. And found, to our surprise, a path leading into the woods. And a “cool bridge,” according to Kato.
As much as I love living on the Eastern Shore, I’m always nostalgic for woods. Today, I got a little taste.
Kato wanted to know why the trees were “wearing pants.” I explained that the tree was wearing pants for the same reason he did. To keep his “bummie” from getting scratched. The explanation made sense to him.
On the way back, we stopped to throw rocks in the river.
We did it for a long time.

Sweet stuff, all the way around.
