There’s no Thanksgiving in the Barn today. Because there is no rule that says Thanksgiving has to be celebrated on Thanksgiving, we are celebrating tomorrow. Our friend Don is coming down from Pennsylvania to join us, and he can’t make it today. Ditto our friend Jim. Robbi’s Bob is happy to eat a feast whenever it is offered, and Robbi herself, though she loves Thanksgiving, is not sentimental about dates. The kids can still be persuaded of anything. It could be Easter for all they know. And I am looking forward to watching great quantities of football unimpeded by the limitations of family obligation.
So, for now, the turkey is brining.
The bubbly is not yet on ice.
And various cans and boxes will wait a bit longer to be opened.
Yes, I have to admit that we do not make our stuffing from scratch. Why bother, I say, when Stove Top has long ago perfected it? Note also: the goth-themed barbie doll is not on the menu.
As for the greens, raise your hand if you had any idea that this is how Brussels sprouts grew.
Be honest.
Mmmm…tasty.
We’ll see if there are any left by dinnertime tomorrow.
For the rest of you, Happy Thanksgiving.
Time to go find my remote control.

Love, love, LOVE that turkey painting. Matthew, I think the brussell sprouts taste better roasted, but to each his own.
I’m really thankful for having you guys open doors of creativity for me.
Matthew, you need to get a crown and use the sprouts as a scepter. Use a throw or baby blanket for a cape. It will make an awesome photo. I promise. You could get the kids to help add other things to the outfit (squash orb? strung carrot chain of office?). Thing Lord of Misrule, or “turkey” in its other connotation. Play with that food!
Happy Thanksgiving.
Fondly,
Virginia
Aww, thanks Virginia!
Aww, thanks Rita!
Two thanks isn’t enough, but I’ve got a lot more up my sleeve.
