The other day we decided to take advantage of the warm weather and headed over to Bob’s house to make use of the yard. As much as Alden insists that the small strip of dirt on the other side of the sidewalk from the barn is our yard, it’s not much for running around in. We brought with us our homemade bubble mix, specially formulated for extra big bubbles. We also brought a big bubble wand, which is basically two sticks with a loop of yarn strung between them.

Bob started out. Alden and Kato were skeptical.

Their skepticism was short-lived, however, and converted to delight.

Delight that turned into awe as Bob miraculously encased his entire torso in a bubble. (Do not try this at home.)

That was pretty hard to top, and so Bob felt the need to up the ante with some impromptu gardening. Kato assisted in some dead boxwood extraction.

And, happily, it was discovered that chasing bubbles is twice as much fun with dead boxwood branches.

Turns out, Bob really knows what he’s doing.

For those of you who are interested in the top-secret bubble recipe, here it is:
6 C water
1/2 C dish soap
1/2 C cornstarch
1 T baking powder
Stir gently (but well) and allow to sit for at least an hour before use.

And here’s how to make your bubble wand (not complicated at all!):
