Just before 4:00am eastern time, I have landed in Anchorage, where the miracles of the Internet are once more at my disposal. I have just reaffirmed my status as a member of the modern world by eating a Big Mac and now will say good night (or good morning, more likely) before boarding a redeye to Seattle. There, I’ll wait around for a while before heading to LA, where I’ll catch a flight to DC, where I and my 48.5 pounds of frozen sockeye fillets will be fetched and driven back to Chestertown by my good friend Jim.

The wireless connection here in Anchorage is free but painfully slow, so I’ll leave you with a few images from the tundra with promises of many more to come in days ahead.

How about a few shots of the family as I left them before the tiny prop plane lifted me from there to here.

Kato wore this suit to bed each night, and around the cabin most days.

Alden has learned how to turn the key and ignition switch to start the four-wheeler. Fortunately, her legs are not yet long enough to put it in gear.

And Robbi, who baked three rhubarb pies to celebrate my departure.

Rhubarb grows wild on the tundra. As does Robbi’s hair most of the time.

I think I’ll have another Big Mac now. Absent a good shower, there is no better way to prepare myself for full re-entry tomorrow.
