Mindful of our promise to maintain a sturdy tether to The Barnstorming vis a vis photos that Alden will some day hate me for once having posted, I offer you this delicacy from yesterday. Robbi bought Alden some new tights a few weeks back, selecting the 18-month size since undersized Alden is just more than 18 months old. Looking more carefully at the label, I noticed that the tights were, in fact, the 18-36 month size. Given that Alden is just now growing into the 12-month size (and still comfortably wears her 9-month onesies), there is a bit of excess fabric to contend with.
This kind of reminds one of Alden’s extraordinary pants, chronicled here on one of my all-time favorite Barnstorming posts.
I know that the era of complete control over photographic rights to my child’s embarrassing moments will someday come to a sudden end. Which is why we’re having Tarzan. A question for parents who might know: when does the dawn of self-consciousness occur? When is she going to start thinking I’m lame? I need to know how much time I have left.

Hmmm. Are you sure she doesn’t already think you’re lame?
Just kidding. But I honestly can’t remember. You probably have till around middle school.
Although there was that time when our son was much younger. We were all in the car and stopped at a light. A great song was on the radio, and also playing in the car next to us. There were two young women in the other car, and they, and my husband and I, all started singing and rocking out. You know…sharing the moment. Well, my son absolutely freaked. I think that was a major turning point in his otherwise fine regard for us… and may have scarred him for life.
Eight. Eight is a terrible year. Spencer is turning nine on Sunday and we will be glad to be eight-year-old free for another 7 years.
Ack! This first picture of Alden may be one of my top 3 thus far. You’re killing me with pictures like that. The extraordinary pants pictures (and the pants themselves) might need to go in the Alden Hall of Fame. Maybe the Smithsonian institute will be interested in making space for such a Hall?
I think the age kids realize their parents are lame is directly related to how many lame things their parents do/have done. So in your case. You’re probably in trouble when Alden is 5. Good luck with that. I don’t officially do therapy until a child is 11 or 12 so I can’t offer my services before that. Sorry.
