Sometimes, perhaps it’s often, I put stuff on top of the fridge to keep kids from getting into it. Candy, Doritos, pastries, and sometimes even bananas. Yes, bananas. The kids love bananas. They eat them recreationally. If bananas are left within arm’s reach, the bananas will vaporize, leaving them unavailable as portable sustenance for long car rides or as the fruit option for lunch boxes.
And so, like any overly tempting article, the bananas sometimes get placed on top of the fridge.
We find it works best when verboten items are left near the front of the fridge, where they can be easily retrieved and not easily forgotten.
Occasionally, however, bad planning yields bad results, as in the case of the bananas that somehow slipped behind the sound system (which is, incidentally, also on top of the fridge) some months (or was it years) ago.
At least, I think these are bananas. They more closely resemble vanilla beans.
Frankly, I’m impressed with how well they held together, all things considered.
I was tempted, for a moment, to see if the grapes-to-raisins paradigm held true for bananas.
But that moment passed rather quickly.

Wow – You guys really ARE our doppelgangers!
Are you saying that you did not taste one? I’m disappointed, truly. I don’t even see much mold on them.
At the very least I hope you’re allowing the experiment to continue. In a few years’ time you might find yourselves searching the house for a last-minute science fair project; and then, voilá the bananas.
