It’s a drear and rainy day in Chestertown. Apparently, Kato is not going to get out of bed. My bed, that is.
I’d give a lot to go back to that state of kid bliss for just five minutes. No responsibilities or commitments. No urgency, no deadlines. No other plan for the day than a trip to the playground, a bowl of mac and cheese, and an afternoon nap.
On the other hand, he can’t just open the fridge and make a sandwich any time he feels like it. I have that, at least.

I’m still amazed that I can drive to a store and get a candy bar whenever I want.
Oh and also–having gone to Catholic school for 14 years–I’m also still amazed that I can dress however I want every day.
Monica – having grown up under the iron fist of Bob the Austere, I also delight in buying candy whenever I damn well please. It’s been working against me lately, but whatever. More M&Ms!
Robbi,
Doug was also denied candy as a child and has been making up for it ever since. We ALWAYS have a box of SEE’s mint patties in the bread box. And, they go fast.
Clare – don’t even talk about See’s. We can’t get them here. When I was in SF, we bought two boxes. And ate them all. Incidentally, Bob the Austere proved himself unworthy of the title in the fracas for more chocolate.
Robbi, have you ever tried an M&M Salad? You get a jumbo bag of every different kind of M&M and then mix them all together in a big bowl. It is Elysium.
