These days, we’ve been doing a lot of lounging.
Kato likes to hang out on his little chair.
It’s a mini straw-bottom chair that Matthew had as a child that we’ve been toting around for years. Turns out, it was worth it, as both Alden and Kato have spent many a happy hour sitting in it and smiling.
Alden, as mentioned before, has been lounging in her cat tower.
In the shuffle to accommodate the Christmas tree, a comfy chair was moved into the spot where Iggy’s bed usually lies. Iggy’s bed was moved onto the couch, which Iggy has enjoyed immensely. But it seemed that today Iggy missed having her usual place to lounge, which had the added benefit of a street view whenever lounging got too dull. She decided to try lounging seated backwards in the comfy chair.
Oscar, a champion lounger, found his cat tower otherwise occupied. His new spot had been recently vacated by warm corn muffins, so it was a fair alternative.
After a while, lounging got the better of us, and tipped into ennui.
It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, action needs to be taken. And it is usually frontlined by Alden, who has the fire of a thousand volcanoes in her trunks (which is often all she’s wearing).
There’s nothing like a good gallop to stamp out the ennui.
Maybe it’s time for me to invest in a horse.

My gosh those kids are cute.
Alden has completely morphed into a leggy little girl, and Kato is the very picture of an imp.
But, I have to ask, did you hook his overalls through the back of the chair!? Because I did that once for a photo of my babe. Just for a moment. So he wouldn’t fall. Really. ;-)
Also just noticed that Kato is in pink overalls! Wow, you guys are really evolved.
Clare – not pink overalls. Because of our red curtains, pretty much everything in our house has a healthy pink glow. So, we aren’t as evolved as all that.
That being said, Alden only sports boy undies (no need to force Kato into frilly hand-me-downs, like I said, I’m totally not evolved at all). And Kato has been known to wear tights.
If you haven’t heard this already, there’s a wonderful story by James Braly about his son and the color pink. Skip to 1:20 to avoid all the advertising at the beginning.
http://bit.ly/eDAPtfEDIT: this one doesn’t seem to have the whole story on it. Here’s another link: http://www.themoth.org/listen – it is the second to last story on the page, James Braly, “Pink Bicycle”. You don’t have to skip anything on this one, it goes right into the story. It makes me so happy.
Oh Robbi,
That is priceless. I listened to it once, then went to my husband’s office and listened once more with him. It makes me happy too, and reminds me of a long ago moment.
When my son was about Alden’s age, I was making a gift for one of his best friends, a little girl named Megan. It was a be-ribboned, tie-on, tutu, with layers of fluffy pink netting. I made a little flowered ribbon headband to complete the outfit.
I finished it and wanted to see how it looked before wrapping it up, so, I put the entire outfit on my son. It was perfect! He seemed to agree, and right as he was exploring its swirl potential, my husband walked into the room. He had the most fascinating mix of emotions expressed on his face. On the one hand, he thought it was hilarious, and on the other hand, he wanted that tutu off his boy as soon as possible. And trust me, this from a man who has no trouble embracing his own softer side. A man who can’t wait to make your jello cake! Oh, it was such a funny moment for us all.
Love that site, btw. Thanks for sharing.
