On Monday, we posted a drawing prompt on the Bobbledy Blog, charging kids with sending us a picture of themselves riding on a “wild animal.” The responses were wonderful (“wild animal” being variously defined as seven-legged giraffe, blue chicken, wolf, “long neck,” elephant, and “wild snowman”), and we’ve posted them this morning.
As I was building the gallery of the kids’ drawings, I realized the blatant hypocrisy of which I was complicit. While encouraging others to take up their pens and draw, I have been sorely remiss in my own artistic obligations. I’m referring, of course, to Matthew Draws, of which there has not been an installment since…February. I could launch into a litany of excuses, or I could simply buckle down and do my worst.
I opt for the latter course.

Darn iPhone cut me off! The rest of the answer was because two of the others are deceased, and because the other still amongst the living with [POTENTIALLY CORRECT ANSWER REMOVED FOR PURPOSES OF PROLONGING THE SUSPENSE] would be entirely too creepy playing (a) doctor on TV!
JudyO: I have taken the liberty of editing your comment to remove the guess you had placed there. It is our policy at Matthew Draws to discourage answers in comments because, as we have found, it diminishes the pleasure of the blank slate for other guessers. But thank you for your prompt and enthusiastic reply. We thank you for your warm embrace of this prodigal feature.
Judi – in case you feel that Matthew is taking this whole Matthew Draws thing too seriously, take comfort in imagining what life is like for me every day. If that doesn’t make you feel better, I’ll point out that he apparently doesn’t know what prodigal means. If that doesn’t make you feel better, well, at least I’ve made Matthew feel worse.
Matthew just informed me that I don’t know what prodigal means. He’s referencing the story of the prodigal son, and I am referencing the dictionary.
Hmmm, how do you plan to hand over the barn if you don’t track who submits the answers? I cry foul! I want the real estate.
Jo-Jo: So suspicious… The survey program tells us who you are. But no one is getting the barn because no one, and I mean NO ONE, is getting #4.
Jo-Jo: Oh we track. We definitely track.
That said, this barn is going to no one.
Everyone: sorry. Didn’t realize Matthew already said exactly what I just said.
That said, we are both correct.
No one is getting the barn.
I’m glad to see the return of Matthew Draws from its long exile to the wilderness. It looks much the same as it always has.
That being said, will you relieve us all of our unattainable hopes of barn-claiming and reveal the answers? Someday? (I’m sure the Barn is a busy place, and there are more important quests to be attended to and all that, but inquiring minds want to know, etc. etc.)
I have to agree with Jack! I know the two of you are BUSY,BUSY,BUSY. You have book orders to fill, drawings to draw, writting to write, coffee to drink, life to live, and babies to change. On top of all of that your darling little Alden has begun her long educational journey … she has started school! How on earth will you get by without your trusty, dependable, talented and hard working assistant Tilly !(if you get really strapped call me).
But for Petes sake guys !! Give US THE ANSWERS!!
I know mine won’t be correct, you see it’s my first time and I was thinking local. The reason I didn’t answer that last one is because I was thinking LOCAL. Had I thought CE-LEB wise I would have said Gordon Ramsey from the show Hells Kitchen.
NOW-ANSWERS PLEASE !! Jack is waiting !!
Jack, Dora, everyone,
You deserve better, to be sure. The fundamental problem with Matthew Draws is that it takes about 15 minutes to execute post the drawings and more than an hour to consolidate and post the answers. These days, hours are hard to come by. But this is because I have always made a point of detailing all the funny wrong answers, and etc. I could just list the right answers. That would take only a few minutes. But I have the sense that it would not be nearly as much fun.
Still, I hear you. I don’t mean to tease. I’ll write up the answers tomorrow, and you shall have them on Sunday morning.
Matthew
