We were driving through the countryside the other day, heading nowhere in particular, purposefully looking for new roads to new places, flipping a coin at intersections to decide which way to go. Before long, we were entirely lost, a state we found surprisingly pleasant. We were driving on a pleasant road through a pleasant countryside when we rounded a corner and found ourselves in a quaint little town with a most satisfying name. We took this photo to commemorate the occasion.
We spent an hour or so in Matthewville—eating lunch in a charming cafe, browsing a number of antique shops, and visiting a local candle maker. Eventually, the time came to leave and we reluctantly headed home. But since we didn’t know exactly where we were, we had to try and retrace our steps. Unfortunately, neither of us has a very keen sense of direction.

We spent an hour or so in Robbiville—eating lunch in a charming cafe, browsing a number of antique shops, and visiting a local candle maker. Eventually, the time came to leave and reluctantly we headed home. But since we didn’t know exactly where we were, we had to try and retrace our steps. Unfortunately, neither of us has a very keen sense of direction.
We drove and drove, feeling very much at home in the world. We were half expecting to come upon Aldenville or Katoville, but mostly getting nowhere as the light fell. Eventually, we remembered that, as members of the 21st century, we could simply program our home address into the Google Maps app on my iPhone, or simply set our GPS to “home.” And so we did, if somewhat reluctantly. And so we made it home. We tucked ourselves in, reflecting on the day, puzzling over where we’d been and wondering where we’re heading.
Which is how we end pretty much every day.

Hilarious. Until I realized you were bypassing Leilaville. Such provincials.
Speaking of Aldenville, where is she these days? Did she have to move to Grandma’s in order to get some nutritious grub? Cuz last time I saw her was quite a while ago, and she was covered in chocolate while Kato had the fruit and cheese.
