As much as I might try to deny it, Alden is now squarely a little girl. She wears dresses instead of onesies, she sits in chairs instead of booster seats, and she uses a cup and straw instead of a sippy cup. But put all three of these together, and disaster threatens.
Observe:
While Alden enjoys wearing dresses, she does not yet understand their mechanics—and potential liabilities.
It would have been polite to tell her what was going on, but I didn’t. It probably wasn’t nice to sit there taking pictures, but I did.
But this endearing lack of self-consciousness will pass so quickly. Soon she will inherently know to avoid such wardrobe malfunctions, or at least, to understand the meaning of the sudden draft on one’s backside and so then to quickly correct the situation.

Wow. And she must have quite a vertical leap to have gotten herself (and her dress) over the back of the chair like that all by herself. :)
VJW: If you are implying that I had anything to do with Alden’s predicament, then…you know me pretty well…since, say, seventh grade. BUT, in this case, I had nothing to do with it. Alden climbed up into the chair, and in the process of sitting down again, got her dress caught on the back of the chair. I promise! Journalistic integrity is my watchword.
She’s just keeping her dress wrinkle-free. Duu-uuh…
Clare’s right of course.
Clare and Jenifer – don’t you wish we could all do that? I’d be wearing linen in a sec. (And much fancier undies, too). Ha!
I just want you guys to know that I have clicked on to this post several times today just because it makes me giggle every single time. So funny…
As for wrinkled clothing, have you ever noticed that some people look good in it?! Not me. I just look like a schlub.
Clare – it’s been giving me good chuckles too. I didn’t actually get to see it first-hand.
I’m one of the unfortunates who often looks rumpled in clothing that isn’t even wrinkled. I don’t know how some people do it. I had a professor in grad school who could do a painting and collage demo with six different kinds of paint and a big pot of glue and come out the other side of it with nary a hair out of place (and in a pencil skirt and heels, no less). It was amazing.
