So, we’ve been sitting on some big news for quite a while now. The big news is not (I repeat: NOT):
1. we’re having another baby
2. it’s snowing
3. Alden is for sale
I say this to settle all those questions that have been floating about lately that were all surely on the tips of your tongues. Sorry to disappoint. (Though, to be entirely forthright, and to further satisfy those of you who were wondering, I will point out that 1. we just had another baby, so you can look at that one 2. it very recently snowed, and snowed again, isn’t that enough already? and 3. she’s not for sale yet, but we do have a weekly auction that she might have to be entered into if I don’t find the time to do an original drawing one of these days – stay tuned.)

Okay – so the big news is that our big trip to the big city was to meet with an agent who had been in contact with us about our work. To be fair, the agent’s “talent scout” had been in touch with us (and had been very helpfully discussing work with Matthew for the better part of a year) and had decided it was time for us to meet with the agent herself. So we said, “WHEN?” and hopped in the van and raced up as fast as we could while trying not to seem too eager (we were unsuccessful, but it doesn’t really matter). We met with both of them (agent and scout) and had an incredibly gratifying conversation over tea about our work and how we could translate what we do into something more commercial/accessible to the masses. Then Matthew knocked a glass of water off the table onto the floor, where it shattered into a million pieces and doused the agent. She was incredibly graceful about it, but I could see that her whole leg was completely soaked. And, in spite of all that, she signed us.

So YES – we now, officially, are being represented by Kathleen Anderson of Anderson Literary Management! Hooray! We are very excited about the possibility of actually selling some books to the world at large. Luckily, Kathleen recognizes that Idiots’Books is its own thing, and we will continue to serve our subscribers up all of the stuff we usually do that we couldn’t possibly sell to the world at large.

But in the meantime, Matthew is furiously typing away on what we hope will be a commercially viable book for “middle grade readers”. He’s been getting help from his ghost writer, who, frankly, has been falling asleep on the job:

but who occasionally offers up such fantastical plot twists that we can’t help but be delighted:

And, so, we won’t be getting rid of him yet.
