Chestertown really shines on sunny Saturdays in October.
For one, the town park fills up with vendors selling fresh vegetables and various crafts.
For two, the streets aren’t totally empty, and you can occasionally see someone actually making use of one of the many many benches around town.
And for three, did I mention the awesome bread?
And the best part about the bread is that by the end of this month, the baker is going to move in right – next – door. Literally – the back door of the bakery is about three hearty leaps from the front door (or side door, whichever it is) of the barn. I say “three hearty leaps” because that will be my chosen method of traversing the driveway between us. The baker apologized in advance for his early mornings – he’s imagining he’ll have to get to work around 2 or 3am. Which is just about the time I often go to bed. I said I didn’t think he would bother us – we’re pretty insulated up here – but then he suggested he’s been working on a recipe for jackhammer artisan bread.
I said I’d put up with the noise if it comes out as delicious as the chocolate croissants.

Three of the many reasons why I miss Chestertown. I have continued to look at your website. Will order something soon — once I decide what, if not all, I want! Glad you are happy. Hope to catch up with you the next time I pass through Kent County.
Team Tosten
When I lived in Sage and pulled a late/all nighter, I’d climb out the window and go visit the Baxter bakers, who would ply me with honey buns. I don’t know whether it was because they took pity on me or whether they appreciated the company, but it worked every time. Same thing with the gingerbread bakery across the street from my huse growing up (send the kids on this errand). Showing up is often half the route to success. Suggest you try it with your new neighbors. Happy crumbs to you and yours.
