I’ve been avoiding this post. A few weeks ago, our cat Oscar left the barn for the last time, joining his sister Lily wherever cats go when they leave us.
He was a very good cat. He did all the regular cat things, but also kept a watchful eye over the irritating small people we kept bringing home. In spite of the fact that we never consulted him first.
He was born in North Carolina back in 1997. I got him at the pound, one half of a sibling duo that moved with me 11 times in six cities before living out their golden years with me here in Chestertown.
Here’s the other half of the duo. She was bossy and cross and always had the upper hand on her brother.
Oscar was the nice one, the sweet one, the slightly neurotic one. All he wanted was love. And breakfast. He was awfully fond of breakfast.
And long, long naps in the sunshine.
He was a good cat. A very good cat.
I just hope that, wherever they are, Lily occasionally lets him have the seat by the window.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s hard to say goodbye to furry family members.
Oscar was sweet and a good hugger. I’ll miss him, too. Love and sympathy to all of you.
What a sweet boy.
I am so very sorry for all of you.
Love and heartfelt hugs.
so sorry you lost a dear old friend.
Ok, am I missing something? Did Oscar die or did Oscar flee the scene.
Beth: Oscar fled the scene…by way of the pearly gates.
Just catching up on ye ol’ blog and I’m so sorry to read this. Saying goodbye to our four (and three) legged family members is zero kinds of fun. Bug hugs to you all.
