Some days it’s the small things. Last night after I finished up my work and we were getting ready to put the kids to bed, I discovered this:
I sure would like to blame one of my children for it. But that jar of ink had obviously been lying there, hapless, for a good, long time. So long, in fact, that the bottom pages of my new daily to-do notebook were already dried and stuck to my desk. The fact is, my desk is such a disaster that this probably went unnoticed for several hours.
Amazingly, the only thing that was irretrievably destroyed was a reminder postcard from my eye doctor. Given that the time between my last two eye doctor appointments was seven years, I think I have about six more reminder postcards coming my way anyway. Of course, the bottom pages of my daily to-do notebook contained my last few days of to-do progress, so that is also lost to the ages, but I’m keeping the other inky pages as a reminder of the event.
And, even more amazingly, this is what happened after I spent the rest of the evening managing the ink spill:
My desk hasn’t been this clean in MONTHS! Quite exciting.* I see, faintly, in a fuzzy-distant-horizon sort of way that my life could be much less crazy.
Check in in a few weeks and I’ll let you know how my desk is doing.
*It occurs to me that it sure would be nice if this was how big oil dealt with their oil spills. Alas, no.

Reading the headline, I thought this was going to be a post about our marriage.
Robbi,
You should see my desks. Home and office.
You give me hope. Maybe I could do this too. It’s usually just coffee w/ half and half that I spill all over the place. Maybe I should get a bottle of ink.
I like Matthew’s comment.
So, who spilled the ink?
Clare – well, now that it turned out so well, I think I’ll blame myself. Thank you, me!
