We went to the doctor’s today for Kato’s two-month checkup.
I am happy to report that he now weighs in at 10lbs, 6 oz. While we were encouraged to know that he has continued to grow, he has slipped somewhat in the national standings, from near the 50th percentile last month to just under the 25th percentile this time around.
We decided to make it a family affair, a decision we regret in retrospect, given Alden’s generally bad attitude about the doctor and her determination to fill Kato’s head with horror stories.
First she sulked and glared, daring us to vaccinate her.
Then, right in the middle of Kato’s examination, she decided to engage in direct sabotage, leaning over and whispering in his ear something along the lines of, “They’re going to stick needles in your legs! They’re going to stick needles in your legs! Flee! Hide. Run amok! They’re going to stick needles in your legs!”
Whether he didn’t believe her or was too terrified to remain conscious, Kato’s response was to promptly fall asleep.
Which was probably for the best. Being asleep, he did not notice when the nurse brought the four syringes into the room.
He did wake up when she started plunging them into his leg, but I’m guessing you’d rather not see photos of a screaming baby.
For her part, Alden felt vindicated. She didn’t say, “I told you so,” but I could tell that she was thinking it.
Perhaps you have seen this look before on Robbi’s face? I know I have.

I do not think it is right how you try to leaven with humor the serious issue of your oddly petite matchbox children.
Indeed, “matchbox”, but so precious! That look on Alden’s face; wow, just wow. What an adventure Kato has ahead of him!
(Thanks for the baby fix from this empty nester. I am going to be one heck of a cloying grandmother some day, God willing, but not too soon!)
Best blog ever. Love reading this.
